The Sacred Heart Council #1847 announces an invitation to boys and girls ages 10 to 14 to participate in the local level council competition for the 2012 Knights of Columbus International Free Throw Championship. The competition will be held Friday, Jan 27 at 7PM at the Hockomock YMCA in Franklin.
The competition is sponsored annually by the Knights of Columbus with the winners progressing through local, district and state competition. International winners are announced by the K. of C. International Headquarters based on scores from the state level competitions.
All boys and girls ages 10 to 14 are eligible to participate and compete in their respective age divisions. (Age as of 1/1/12) Annually more than 179,000 sharpshooters participated in over 3,000 local competitions with Meghan Shaw, from our competition in 2008, making it to the State Finals. We hope for a greater turnout this year at Hockomock YMCA.
All contestants on the local level are recognized for their participation in this event.
A copy of the participant’s birth certificate will be required to enter the contest.
Official KofC basketballs will be used in the competition.
AGE SPECIFICATIONS
Ages 10, 11 (Boys & Girls Competitions)
Use a women’s regulation-size basketball and shoot
from a 12-foot foul line at a 10-foot-high basket.
(NOTE: The normal foul line is 15 feet from the
basket. Foul lines at 12 feet from the basket for
10- and 11-year-old divisions should be clearly
marked with athletic or masking tape prior to the
competition.)
Ages 12, 13, 14 (Girls Competitions)
Use a women’s regulation-size basketball and shoot
from the regulation foul line 15 feet from a
10-foot-high basket.
Ages 12, 13, 14 (Boys Competitions)
Use a men’s regulation-size basketball and shoot
from the regulation foul line 15 feet from a
10-foot-high basket.

Knights of Columbus International Free Throw Championship
Since 1972, councils have sponsored the Knights of Columbus International Free Throw Championship for boys and girls between the ages of 10 and 14.
The championship is set up to have the contestants compete within their own gender and age group. All competition starts at the local level.
Winners move on to the district, regional, and state or province levels.
From there, some make it to the international level for championship competition in their group.
